The first was this past Sunday but there are 3 more coming this year and let me tell ya, there's something for everyone. The kids had a blast riding their bikes, playing games, doing the bouncy things (I forget the name of them. Might just be called "bouncy things"), riding a carousel and taking photos with their local police officer (I almost cried. The Cape just lost one of their own in Yarmouth, Sean Gannon, so I love to see children in awe of their local police).

For the adults...well, let's see...shopping at a great variety of stores, eating at a wonderful array of restaurants, drinking at some great outdoor bars with live music (it took all I had to walk by several bars. Just not enough time. I'll plan better for May 20th), and just enjoying the great outdoors with no cars beeping their horns or mowing you down.

It's a great way to spend a day on Cape Cod!

Make sure you click on the video because I'm not sure why it's just black. Technology maybe. Certainly not me.

Come join the fun at the next Open Streets in May!

Wampanoag Rap https://www.capecodvillages.net/blog/2018/2/wampanoags-rap

I came across this song recently and thought it was beyond impressive. Mashpee is home to many Native Americans and has a rich history of the Wampanoag tribe. Check out the song that these young men from Mashpee created to help combat the opiod epidemic.

“Flippin” or ‘Flipping Bags’ are street slang for selling heroin, a significant problem in communities throughout the USA.

"Among the hardest hit are Native American communities with the Mashpee Wampanoag having the highest per capita rate of deaths due to opioid overdoses. A collective of young Mashpee Wampanoag MCs, dubbed the Soul Poet’s Syndicate, decided to ‘flip the script’ and used the term as the title of their anti-opioids campaign anthem."

Rock Harbor - Orleans https://www.capecodvillages.net/blog/2018/1/rock-harbor---orleans

If you've never caught a sunset in Orleans, you might want to put it on your bucket list. I had an appointment in Dennis and was driving along Route 6 and could see the big, purple-ly, puffy clouds in the distance. I knew I had to get to the beach after my appointment because it was going to be a heck of a sunset. I let the sky dictate which beach to go to and ended up at Skaket Beach.

Enjoy the view!

Cape Fish and Lobster https://www.capecodvillages.net/blog/2018/1/cape-fish-and-lobster

We all know fish and Cape Cod go together like mashed potatoes and gravy but have you ever thought about where many of the restaurants on Cape Cod get that delicious fish they're serving you? I know and I'm happy to share it with you. Cape Fish and Lobster is a market that sells some of the best gosh darn fish on Cape Cod and it's right in Hyannis on West Main St.

Ralph is a friend of mine (don't ask him cuz he probably won't admit it) and I know it's not my place to diagnose him as having OCD but his store is impeccable and he is very picky about the fish he sells. It’s so nice to benefit from other people's obsessions :)

I spoke to a guy a few months ago in Cape Fish who was a snowbird (a person who goes south for the winter. I know you know that..) and he told me he orders his lobsters from Cape Fish and has them delivered to Florida in the winter. He says it's worth every penny. Kudos to him for being away and still buying from his local fish market!

I hope you can enjoy a fish dish somewhere on the Cape soon!

Painted Daisies https://www.capecodvillages.net/blog/2017/11/painted-daisies

If you're close to Sandy Neck Beach and you love penny candy like I do, make a stop at Painted Daisies. You will not only have lots of candy choices...you'll have lots and lots of cool beachy stuff to peruse as well (watch the video and tell me I'm not right). Robin has a knack for displaying a great variety of quality goods and also sells jewelry, paintings, photography, etc. from local artists. If you mention my website, I'll pay for a piece of penny candy. It's always a great thing to buy local!
